Race 1 An A to B course that can be described as Intermediate in difficulty with a steady uphill climb though not described as steep. A 666-m alt gain over 22kms which is a 30metre alt. gain each kilometer on average. It starts from the South gate of the Raniban Forest on the road to Kakani and follows the road to Kakani all the way. There are no turn offs that can cause confusion, except the turnoff to Kakani from the main road junction. This will be clearly marshaled. From a starting altitude of approx 1400-m the road climbs steadily via one of the most picturesque routes in all of Kathmandu Valley as it winds through Nepalese villages and a countless number of terrace fields that culminates at an altitude of 2066-m with a stunning display of the Himalayas along the valleys rim. The road is mostly sealed with rough patches of broken road, minor
water crossings and occasional muddy / sandy sections. Open & Seniors: Will complete the whole
course of 21.90kms Paralympic Wheelchair riders: Will start from the main starting gate and complete the first 7.85kms to the first change over in the schools relay. Race 2 An A to B course that can be described as Intermediate to challenging in difficulty with a progressive drop in altitude of 515m over 9kms after a short uphill at the start of the race. The race will commence from the compound of Club Himalaya and enter the main road before taking the right hand off-road turn off heading in the direction of Nagarkot Farm House. There are several turn offs that can cause confusion and these will be manned in addition to having the roads closed for the event. From a starting altitude of approx 1950-m the road descends before a fantastic Himalayan backdrop and typical Nepali countryside that will make every bit of the event memorable. The road is nearly all jeep track with some rough and monsoon ripped sections that will require cautious riding. A grand welcome will await all in the ancient town of Sankhu. The road will be closed to all traffic and policed during the event in additional to Race Marshals manning the course. Open & Seniors: Will complete the whole course of 9kms Paralympic Wheelchair riders: Will not compete in this race Race 3An out & back course that can be described, as moderate to difficult depending on your race category as there is a different course for some. All riders follow the same course from Lubhu out to the Village Bus Park near Siserni adjoining a large Pipal Tree. From here the Paralympic Wheelchair riders with return to Lubhu and the Junior / Women riders will continue to the gate of the Elite School grounds and then return to Lubhu over the same course. The Open & Senior category riders will ascend the challenging 7 kms to Lakuri Bhunjgunj testing everyones endurance and then their downhill abilities on the return to Lubhu. All riders finish in Lubhu Township. It all starts from the main township gate at the western eastern end of the City on the rough but sealed road through the middle of the medieval city then heads east of the city. There are several turn offs that can cause confusion so care should be taken. The course will be marshaled. From a starting altitude of approx 1312-m the road climbs steadily via one of the most picturesque routes in Kathmandu Valley as it winds through to one of the highest points in the south end of the valley being Lakuri Bhungjung. Nepalese villages and a forested terrain sets the landscape up to the altitude of 2066-m with a stunning display of the Himalayas across the valleys rim to the north. The road is dirt jeep track and in sections is stony and ripped.
Caution will need to be taken. Open & Seniors: Will complete the whole course of 21kms Paralympic Wheelchair riders: Will start their event from Lubhu and travel through to Bus Park at the 3.5km mark and return to Lubhu. |
