RACE SERIES 2001 - Kathmandu, Nepal

DATES: November 10th Saturday / 18th Sunday / 24th Saturday
Course maps will give an accurate location to the events ( see course maps )

Buses will transport any riders and spectators to the event from the locations detailed below and also return after the event back to Kathmandu.

Race1: 10th (Saturday) November - Raniban to Kakani
The start is located immediately to the north of the city of Kathmandu via the road to Balaju. The turn off from the Ring Road on the road to Kakani will bring you directly to the start line just 2kms from the Ring Rd.

Bus Pickup: Departs Kantipath (Opposite Grindlay’s Bank) 0800hrs
Race Check-in / Race Numbers: 0900hrs to 10:30am
Race Start time: 1100hrs
Car Parking: Main Road left side before start line.
Buses depart for Finish Line and also drop Race Marshals: 0930am

Race Start Times:
Open / Senior’s / Schools / Wheelchair Athletes: 1100hrs from main start line
Juniors / Women: from the 14km marker Approx: 1130 hrs

Note: Juniors / Women & School team members 2 & 3 will depart with the buses at 0930hrs to be dropped at their starting points.

Spectators: You will need to travel through to Kakani ahead of the race start as the race-course will be closed to ALL traffic from approx 0930am. You can take the buses provided to the FINISH Line.


Race2: 18th (Sunday) November Nagarkot to Sankhu
Nagarkot is a well known hill-station/ resort area on the N/E Rim of Kathmandu Valley which takes approx 1-1:15min to drive to. HMB will have buses departing the morning of the event for anyone wishing to take the ride up. The departure point will be departing Kantipath (Opposite Grindlay’s Bank) @ 0730hrs, on time.

Race Check / Race Numbers: 0900hrs to 10:30am
Race Start time: 1100hrs Club Himalaya Resort - Nagarkot
Car Parking: Main Road left side before the main Nagarkot Chowk and shops. Do note enter or proceed past the intersection.
Buses depart for Finish Line & also drop Race Marshals in position: 0930am

Race Start Time: Open / Senior’s / Schools / Junior’s / Women: 1100hrs from main start line

Spectators: Options.

  1. Travel to Nagarkot and then onto Sankhu ahead of the race start as the race-course will be closed to traffic from approx 0930am. The road to Sankhu will generally be rough.
  2. Drive direct to Sankhu from Kathmandu via Boudanath, which is a 30-45min drive approx. for the finish of the race. Vehicles cannot travel from Sankhu to Nagarkot as the road will be closed.

Race3: 24th (Saturday) November Lubhu Area
Lubhu is located in the South / SE region of the valley and is approx 30-45min drive from central KTM. The race will start and finish in Lubhu. HMB will have buses departing the morning of the event for anyone wishing to take the ride. The departure point for buses will be Kantipath (Opposite Grindlay’s Bank) @ 0815hrs, on time

Access to the Race Start area will be clearly marked. We ask that nobody bring their vehicles onto the course or other than where directed, for the safety of the riders. All parking will be outside the City Gateway

The Finish Compound will also be clearly defined and parking will be allocated. Please follow all directions to parking by our marshals, which will be critical to the planning and safety of the event.

Race Check-in / Race Numbers: 0900hrs to 10:30am
Race Start time: 1100hrs Western gateway of Lubhu
Car Parking: Main Road left side before the main western gateway of Lubhu. Do not enter or proceed past the gateway into the township. Tents, seating and food will be located inside the township just a short walk through the gateway.
Race Marshals taken to their positions: 0930am

Race Start Time: Open / Senior’s / Schools / Junior’s / Women / Wheelchair Athletes: 1100hrs from main western gateway proceeding through the city then out the eastern gateway.

Note: Schools / Junior’s / Women / Wheelchair Athletes have a short course to race.

Spectators: Options.

  1. Walk from Lubhu township to various points along the course to see the riders travel out and back. The will be totally closed to traffic from approx 0930am. The road up to Lukhuri Banjung will generally be rough, if anyone plans to travel there ahead of the road closures.
  2. Drive to Lukhuri Banjung the early morning before the race and road closures and watch the race from the lofty heights above the valley as riders come into Lukhuri Banjung. Overnight accommodation is available in Adventure Tented Camp, booked with HMB.

Parking is OUTSIDE the race compound. Please do not enter the roadways where the race banners & race gate are displayed.
